Classes are a great way to learn new skills or refine the skills you have. By broadening and refining your skills you'll be able to enjoy kayaking on a deeper level. Central Coast Kayaks has both staff and contract instructors who are ACA trained for all levels of service including kayak fishing, navigation, and multi-day excursion training.

Basic S.O.T
Getting instruction on the Beach
This introductory course for sit-on-top (open deck) kayaks is a recreation-based course and introduces students to basic paddling strokes, solo and assisted rescues, launching and landing, and general kayaking technique and safety on the protected waters along our beautiful coastline. If you are looking for a fun place to start your paddling career or just want to see what sit-on-top kayaking is about, this class is for you.

Basic Coastal Kayaking
Learning skills for the open ocean
This ACA formatted course provides a safe and fun introduction to closed deck (sit inside) sea kayaking. This one-day class will help to create a foundation of basic paddling skills, which include touring, sweeps, and draw strokes. Wet exits, assisted and solo recoveries will be practiced to make your experience safe and enjoyable. In addition, you will learn the basics of launching and landing, nautical rules of the road, boat design and construction, signaling and safety devices. This class is designed for those looking to get into closed deck sea kayaking! Also includes the do’s and don’ts of transporting your kayak.

Surf Kayaking
Riding the waves in a kayak!
Here at Central Coast kayaks we call it pure fun! Our staff will jump at the chance to take you kayak surfing. You will have the time of your life with our experienced instructors. Learn about water conditions, wave dynamics, setting up, turning, trimming, ruddering, bracing, and surf zone safety. Basic kayaking skills required. Usually taught with sit-on-top kayaks. Closed deck boats can be used with prior instructor approval.

Roll Class
Learning to roll can be lots of fun
Our roll classes concentrate on the basic techniques that lead to a strong and confident roll. We start with a foundation of body position and develop muscle memory. Rolls practiced will work in either whitewater or ocean environments. A 1:2 instructor to student ratio assures students plenty of individual attention. This three session class is held in a heated pool with all equipment provided.
Reservation and Cancellation Policy
Reservations are required for all Tours and Classes. A valid credit card number is required at time of booking for all tours and classes. We also require 7 days notice for a full refund. There are NO REFUNDS for cancellations LESS THAN 7 DAYS before the tour or class or no shows. Central Coast Kayaks reserves the right to cancel a Tour or Class based on poor/unsafe weather conditions. In this event, Central Coast Kayaks will contact you as soon as possible and issue a FULL REFUND or offer to RESCHEDULE your tour or class.
Light rain or heavy fog will not always cancel your Tour or Class, as long as conditions remain calm and safe.
